Our best session and our worst session did the same thing on paper. The difference was the questions. A random question tells a man you have no real interest in him, and he hands you a generic answer back.
So we wrote the method down: the categories a keepsake is built from, the order they run in, and how a facilitator picks the right two questions for one man in five minutes. That architecture of the conversation is the thing worth keeping. Being interviewed is extractive. Being heard is the opposite, and the whole method is built to keep him in the second mode, holding the pen the whole way.

The whole honest record
Small on purpose. We would rather run it well seven times than badly seventy. The second session fell flat, we found out why, and this is the fix the next ones will test.
What he takes home
Not a clip. A keepsake he keeps.
We design each recording into one of three formats, digital and printed. He keeps one. One reaches home. These are the formats, not a real worker's private message.

The line we hold
Consent,
not extraction.
A man only says the true thing when he feels safe. So consent is not a form we clear before the interesting part. It is the interesting part.
He holds the pen
He decides what is kept and what, if anything, leaves the room.
A cool-off
Nothing about public use is decided in the warm glow of the session. That is a separate, calmer conversation days later.
The right to withdraw
After he sees the finished keepsake, he can still pull it.
Nothing shared without a yes
No face, no voice, no name in public without his explicit consent, checked clear of anything that could put his job at risk.
